Economics Officers

The Central Bank of Malta is inviting applications from citizens of Member States of the European Union who are suitably qualified to fill positions within the Bank as ECONOMICS OFFICERS.

The Job
Positions exist within different Divisions in the Bank. These jobs involve monitoring, analysing and forecasting economic and financial developments in Malta and abroad, undertaking research in specialised areas, contributing to the construction of macroeconomic and financial stability models, and investment portfolio management, among other tasks, many of which are related to the Bank’s membership of the Eurosystem. In addition, Bank staff also participate actively in the work of the committees and working groups of the European System of Central Banks.

All positions are intended to lead to a career with the Bank. Selected individuals may be given the opportunity to undergo postgraduate studies abroad.

Aptitude & Qualifications
Candidates should possess an Honours Degree in Economics (minimum Second Class Upper classification) or a Masters Degree in Economics from a reputable university. Experience in empirical applications in the field of economics will be considered an asset. Candidates should also have strong analytical skills and proven ability to work in a team and prepare reports within specified deadlines. Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written, is a must.

University students who expect to graduate later on this year may also apply for the positions. Their eventual selection will be conditional on their having satisfied the degree classification standard mentioned above.

Method of Selection
Selection will be based on an interview and a written assessment, both to be undertaken in English. Candidates will bear the costs of participating in the selection process.

Conditions
The Bank is offering an attractive remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, which will include fringe benefits unique to employees in the banking sector. The contract of employment will initially be for a period of two years.
